Gangotri, India
One of the Char Dham, Gangotri is believed to be the origin of River Ganga. Legend holds that it was here at Gangotri that Lord Shiva locked the forceful Ganga in his locks to weaken her force. Physically, the Ganga originates from the glacier called Bhagirathi. Apart from the religious sanctity attached to the town, Gangotri is a marvel of nature too. A striking tranquility and amazing serenity topped by enchanting snow-clad mountains and pristine waters makes Gangotri a destination worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. There aren’t a large number of hotels in Gangotri, but one would not face accommodation difficulties here. There are enough hotels in Gangotri to cater to the needs of accommodation of travelers. Almost all Gangotri hotels offer decent facilities and comforts that ensure a pleasant stay. There are also a few camps in Gangotri. Since the number of hotels in Gangotri is less, booking in advance is advisable. A major landmark in the town is the Gangotri Temple, built by a Gorkha commander in the 18th century
